The painter Reinier Knol

Reinier Knol, who lives and Works in Leeuwarden, a city in the north of the Netherlands , the capital of the province Friesland, embarked on his painting career eleven years ago, having previously worked as a graphic artist in the advertising industry.
Knol’s marl work, featering postage stamps in a collage technique, later evolved into cheerful, brightly colored Works depicting animals, strane people, cities, villages and motifs of all kinds. By way of contrast, he often paints landscapes and buildings, limieten his palette of two of three colors. He also enjoys portraying a certain theme in a series of Works displaying various color schemes. The Oldehove Tower in Leeuwarden, for example, has become a favorite with visitors to his studio and atelier., who often go home with one of his many version of this local landmark . A theme such as sailing- a popular sport in this lake - studded province - or a series of paintings of the Haute Provence in France produce a very different palette of soft, pastoral tones. Knol also delights in depicting imaginary animals and groups of figures. Despite the spontaneity with which he creates these bold shapes, there is a definite firmness of line and espresso, combined with an element of playful humor completely in keeping with artiestes inenting to make the world a happier place.
